Home Stallone

KEVIN!!!!!!!!!!

Lockdown 2.0. No fun is it? Remember the heady days of lockdown 1.0? The anticipation at 5pm every afternoon of the downing street briefing pushing us all closer to the apocalyptic edge of social structure breakdown. The idiots stocking up on toilet rolls and fighting over supermarket own brand Penne? The Gin was opened at 5pm and stayed open most of the week (well it did in my house).

And here we are with lockdown 2.0, new improved lockdown, now with added tedium for longer, darker days.

If, like me, you find yourself working from home more often than not these days, left behind like Kevin McCallister in Home Alone. No point in setting booby traps for Harry and Marv, why not spend that time having a look at your online presence. Get your website beefed up, fix your social media, jack up your Google My Business account. We are talking about Home Alone on steroids, yep, Home Stallone! (I’m sorry I can’t take credit for that meme).

For those of you that have read our previous blog posts (and if you are not one of those people, why not? What is wrong with you?) you already know here at Sharpmonkeys HQ we like nothing more than a good old fashioned film reference. Take a look at “Coming Back Stonger” another Stallone inspired piece, or more recently “Trick or Treat” that has more horror tropes in it than Stephen Kings Halloween party.

In this post we are going to get you to set up booby traps, not for unsuspecting gold toothed, unscrupulous burglars but for website visitors. When we say booby traps, we don’t mean literally twonking them with an iron or leaving marbles for them to slip over on but more like little handy tips to get your website working harder for you to build up leads and enquiries.

In the classic Christmas film, on the first night, our duo of hapless infamous crooks pull up outside the McCallister residence and discover that it looks as though a party is in full swing. Of course it isn’t but resourceful Kevin has made it look as though the house is occupied.

Looking at your digital assets, are they working hard enough for you 24/7? Are you able to take enquiries and answer questions even when nobody is in? Three simple approaches we can recommend to help you provide a service even when your asleep are;

  1. Install  a chat function on your website, we use Pure Chat – you can get an account with them for free. Having this function allows you to answer questions and enquiries “live” on your website, it also allows you to take questions, be notified and answer them or even set up a series of pre automated responses to frequently asked questions and lead website visitors to different pages and solutions. You are effectively always available.
  2. You can also set up a Facebook messenger service connected to your business page that can handle enquiries either on your website or your Facebook page. This can be automated with answers triggered by different questions and again lead your visitor to a relevant page or collate contact details.

A recent survey (November 4th 2020) states that at least of 50% of web visitors now expect some sort of live chat on a website they are visiting. It is quickly becoming the leading digital contact method that customers prefer with 46% stating that they would prefer to start communicating with a company via live chat rather than more traditional methods such as email (29%) and social media (16%).

It fulfills that need we have for “instant gratification” when it comes to communicating with organisations – think about it, how many times have you looked at a website or a social media account and wanted to know something about the products or services there and then? Typical question that can be solved quickly using instant chat or a chat bot might be;

“How quick is delivery?”

“When can you get back to me?”

“What are your opening times?”

“Are you still open?”

“Can I make an appointment?”

“Can I get a call back please?”

The list is endless. But with careful planning and pre written responses, an automated script can work miracles on your website directing visitors to the right pages, taking details and starting that customer journey early on.
